It isn't showing you the correct speed you are transfering data at. Unless
those are file that are /highly/ compressable via the modem's compression
routines between your computer and your ISP, there is no way you are
exceeding the max transfer rate of 53 kilobits, or ~6 1/2 kiloBYTES. Are
you sure you aren't getting them at 23 kiloBITS per second?

wire used in 98% of the phone network can manage is 64 kbits per second or

Sure it is. It's just not REAL speed. But using v.44 compression you
can theoretically get about 20kB/s downloading any type of file that's

a lot more data downloaded in certain limited situations. It's still
no substitute for broadband. *loves his 512kb up/3200kb down cable*

My personal favorite thing about cable is that since you're not paying
for a specific speed, as they do network upgrades it just keeps getting

Not a thing that I know of. That is how I've been doing it. I think
I've got just under half at this point. Not that I've been working
real hard at it tho. I have too many other things I'm trying to do
on my comp to try to do exclusively that. actually, I haven't had
time to unzip any of them yet either.
